Spring Show 2013 Reefer Madness

Queen’s Musical Theatre presents:
A musical parody of the 1936 propaganda film “Tell Your Children”, Reefer Madness chronicles melodramatically catastrophic events resulting from teenagers indulging in the destructive, yet seductive, effects of marihuana. As told to the audience by The Lecturer, we follow the story of young Jimmy Harper falling victim to this menace, later to redeem himself by telling the world the “truth”.

In a culture so often exploited under threats of uncertainty, Director Joey Graff has chosen to explore the horrifying but hilarious world of political lobbying and propaganda, achieving a vibrant approach to Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney’s writing, and shedding new light on the characters of a cult classic. After QMT’s resounding success with Sweeney Todd in December 2012, Reefer Madness will continue to uphold the company’s renowned performance value and professionalism, and seeks to astound and amuse the Queen’s University and Kingston communities.

Queen’s Musical Theatre presents:

This bold, disturbing and alarmingly funny musical lays bare the lives of nine individuals who assassinated or tried to assassinate the President of the United States, in a one-act historical “revusical” that explores the dark side of the American experience. From John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald, writers Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman bend the rules of time and space, taking us on a nightmarish roller coaster ride in which assassins and would-be assassins from different historical periods meet, interact and inspire each other to harrowing acts in the name of the American Dream.

Book by John Weidman
Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim
Based on an idea by Charles Gilbert, Jr.
Directed by Dylan On
Produced by Tessa Burnside
